NDRC: China builds the world's largest and most complete new energy industry chain

On the afternoon of November 15, a side event on the theme of "Energy Saving and Carbon Reduction: China's Actions" was successfully held at the China Corner of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).

Mr. Wen Hua, Deputy Director of the Department of Environmental Resources of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), delivered a keynote speech, introducing the remarkable achievements of China's green and low-carbon development. He pointed out that China has constructed the world's most systematic and complete carbon emission reduction policy system, energy transformation has been effective, the total installed scale of wind power and solar power generation has achieved the target of international commitments more than 6 years in advance; the industrial structure is optimized and upgraded, and the world's largest and most complete new energy industry chain has been built; the pace of green transformation of buildings and transportation has been accelerated, and the proportion of green floor area in new buildings in cities and towns has exceeded 901 TP3T, and the production of new energy vehicles has exceeded 10 million by 2024. The annual output of new energy vehicles in 2024 has exceeded 10 million; the efficiency of resource utilization has been continuously improved, and the output rate of major resources has increased by about 60% over the past decade.Guo Rui, deputy director of the International Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, introduced the progress related to international cooperation in addressing climate change and sustainable industries, emphasizing that while actively promoting its own green transformation, China has always been open and cooperative, and relying on the BRICS, APEC, GDP and other international organizations, it has been able to achieve its goals. Mr. Lv Wenbin, Director of the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), introduced China's initiatives and effectiveness in promoting low-carbon energy transformation in recent years. Mr. Tang Zujun, Vice President of China Iron and Steel Industry Association (CISIA), introduced the relevant practices and results of the "Ultimate Energy Efficiency" initiative to promote energy saving and carbon reduction in China's iron and steel industry. Representatives from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Energy Foundation (China), Beijing Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Center, State Grid Corporation of China, China Boqi Environmental Protection Company and other organizations and enterprises carried out dialogues and exchanges on international cooperation in energy conservation and energy efficiency improvement; representatives from China Circular Economy Association, China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group, Greenpeace, New Development Bank, and Shuzhan Eucalyptus Pulp Company of Brazil carried out a symposium on green transformation and cooperation in sustainable industries. This side event was hosted by the National Energy Conservation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission and co-organized by the Center for International Cooperation. Materials such as "China's Green Development in the New Era", "China's Energy Transformation" and "Joining Hands to Build a Community of Human Destiny: China's Initiatives and Actions" were distributed on site.
