Solar Power Europe 2024 was held from June 19 to 21 in Munich, Germany, attracting about 3,000 exhibitors from 160 countries and regions. As an important exhibition for the world's solar industry, this year's show attracted nearly 1,000 Chinese companies, more than the host Germany. For the first time since the inception of the exhibition, China has become the largest exhibitor.
Representatives of Chinese and foreign enterprises and industry experts attending the exhibition believe that China's photovoltaic industry has significant advantages in technological innovation, cost control and value chain integration. In recent years, China has provided competitive and high-quality photovoltaic products to European countries, including Germany, and has strongly promoted the energy transformation process in Europe, realizing a real "win-win" situation.
European Solar Energy Industry Association released during the exhibition "2024-2028 Global Solar Energy Market Outlook" report shows that Germany's new installed photovoltaic capacity in 2023 grew by more than 1,00% year-on-year, jumping to the fourth in the world. In addition, in 2023 into the world's top ten PV market in Europe, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands, the new PV installed capacity of these countries are also realized year-on-year growth. By 2023, the global total installed PV capacity of 1 GW of 31 countries, 14 of which are located in the EU.
The report states that the unprecedented scale of growth of the global PV market in 2023 is largely attributable to the development of the PV industry in China. Had it not been for China's strong investment in PV deployment, the industry's growth would have slowed down significantly.
According to Markus Elzesser, Founder and CEO of German Solar Promotion, the organizer of the show, China has established a complete value chain in the PV industry, from raw materials to end products, while China's advanced manufacturers provide an innovative impetus for the European PV industry.
Elzesser emphasized that renewable energy, including PV, is crucial for European industry to decarbonize. "The Chinese photovoltaic industry has helped us over the past few years to get the competitive products we need to transition to a decarbonized society, and I think it's a win-win for both sides to engage in cooperation." He said.
