U.S.: Ground-mounted solar capacity reaches more than 100GW cumulatively

Recently, the American Council for Clean Energy (ACP) released the Q1 2024 Clean Energy Quarterly Market Report, which shows that the U.S. utility-scale solar, wind and storage industries added a combined 5.585GW of new installed capacity in the first quarter, up 28% year-over-year.

Among them, 4.557GW of new solar capacity was installed, making the cumulative total of installed ground-mounted solar capacity in the U.S. exceed 100GW for the first time, reaching 100.547GW. ACP said it took 18 years for the U.S. to reach the first 50GW of installed ground-mounted solar capacity, while the second 50GW was installed in just four years.

The report also reveals that the size of the U.S. clean energy reserves expanded to nearly 175GW, the highest level ever recorded, thanks to the expansion of the battery storage and solar sectors, which have grown at an average quarterly rate of 11% and 4%, respectively, since the second quarter of 2022.
