Xi pointed out that since APEC established the mechanism of regular leaders' meetings, it has always been at the forefront of global openness and development, and has vigorously promoted regional trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, economic and technological development, and the movement of goods and people, creating the "Asia-Pacific Miracle" that has attracted worldwide attention. At present, with the accelerated evolution of the world's century-old changes and the multiple risks and challenges facing the world economy, the Asia-Pacific region, as an engine of global growth, shoulders a greater responsibility of the times. As leaders of the Asia-Pacific region, we should think deeply about what kind of Asia-Pacific we should bring to the middle of this century. How to build the next "golden thirty years" of Asia-Pacific development? How can APEC play a better role in this process?
Xi emphasized that we should uphold the original spirit of Asia-Pacific cooperation, responsibly respond to the call of the times, join hands to address global challenges, fully implement the Putrajaya Vision, build an open, dynamic, resilient and peaceful Asia-Pacific community, and achieve common prosperity for the people of the Asia-Pacific and for future generations.
First, we must adhere to the drive for innovation. We should more actively promote scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation, and join hands to create an open, fair, just and non-discriminatory environment for scientific and technological development. We will accelerate digital transformation, narrow the digital divide, support the application of new technologies such as big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and quantum computing, and continue to shape new dynamics and new advantages for Asia-Pacific development. China has put forward APEC initiatives such as building digital villages, digital identity for enterprises, and utilizing digital technology to promote green and low-carbon transformation, so as to better empower the development of the Asia-Pacific region.
Secondly, we must adhere to an openness orientation. We must safeguard free and open trade and investment, support and strengthen the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core, maintain the stability and smooth flow of the global industrial chain supply chain, and oppose the politicization, weaponization and pan-securitization of economic and trade issues. We should unswervingly push forward regional economic integration and accelerate the process of the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area (APFTA). China had successfully organized the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, injecting new impetus into promoting global connectivity and building an open world economy.
Thirdly, we must insist on green development. It is necessary to adhere to the harmonious coexistence of human beings and nature, accelerate the promotion of a green and low-carbon transformation of the development mode, and synergize the promotion of carbon reduction, pollution reduction, green expansion and growth, in order to cultivate a green underpinning for growth in the Asia-Pacific region. China insists on taking the path of ecological priority and green development, and actively and steadily promotes carbon peak carbon neutral. We have put forward APEC cooperative initiatives on green agriculture, sustainable cities, low-carbon energy transformation and marine pollution prevention and control to promote the building of a clean and beautiful Asia-Pacific.
Fourthly, we must insist on universalization and sharing. We must fully implement the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, promote the return of development issues to the center of the international agenda, deepen the docking of development strategies, and jointly address the global development deficit. We welcome all parties to actively participate in global development initiatives, deepen cooperation in such areas as poverty reduction, food security, industrialization and financing for development, and build a global development community so that people of all countries can share the fruits of modernization. China will continue to support APEC in its economic and technical cooperation, and work together to make the Asia-Pacific development cake bigger.
